Snapchat

Gated — allowlist-only. There is no self-serve route to programmatic posting; you need a Snap representative to enable your client.

Snapchat

Gated — no self-serve path exists.

The reality

Snapchat's Public Profile API can post Stories, Saved Stories, and Spotlight content. You cannot turn it on yourself.

Access is allowlist-only: you set up a Snap Business account, and then a Snap representative must explicitly allowlist your client id. There is no application form that resolves on its own timeline, no developer tier you can pay for, and no documented SLA. In practice it requires a commercial relationship — which usually means an ad-spend conversation.

What this means practically

For most small teams Snapchat is a human-posting channel, indefinitely. Treat it that way in planning rather than leaving it as a perpetually-blocked automation ticket.

If Snapchat is genuinely central to your audience — and for some consumer segments in MENA it is — the realistic options are:

  1. Post manually. Generate the media with your pipeline, a human posts it.
  2. Use an aggregator. Ayrshare and similar services have the relationship already and expose Snapchat through their API.
  3. Open the commercial conversation. If you are spending on Snap ads, ask your rep about Public Profile API access as part of that.

How to start, if you want to try

  1. Create a Snap Business account at business.snapchat.com
  2. Create a Public Profile for the brand
  3. Register an app in the Snap Developer portal
  4. Contact a Snap representative to request allowlisting for the Public Profile API

Step 4 is the whole thing. Steps 1–3 take an afternoon and get you nowhere without it.

The traps

Don't confuse the APIs. Snap's Marketing API (ads) and Conversions API (measurement) are self-serve and well documented. Neither posts organic content. It is easy to read the developer site and conclude access is available when the organic-posting piece is the one part that isn't.

Don't build against it speculatively. Without allowlisting you cannot test anything end to end, so code written in advance is unverifiable and will likely need rework once real access arrives.

Environment variables

None — nothing to configure until allowlisted.

Limits

  • Media: Stories, Saved Stories, Spotlight
  • Cost: free (the API), but effectively gated behind a commercial relationship
  • AI disclosure: required for monetized content; caption disclosure if you are Spotlight-monetized
